Capacity Limit Creates Need for School Bond Issue
Enrollment of current students in Bennington Public Schools is starting to put a strain on class size and the capacity limit at the high school. Looking at the number of current students in grades 5-8, the high school will be over capacity by 17% for the 2027-28 school year. This number does not take into account any growth due to new students. With no growth, the high school will be slightly over capacity for the 2025-2026 school year.
The chart below shows current and future enrollment projections with no growth (no students moving in or out of the District), a conservative amount of growth, and growth that follows what the District has seen historically.
Bennington Public Schools is estimated to be almost 5,000 K-12 students by the 2027-28 school year. The District is projected to be 12,000 to 14,000 students when fully built-out. The chart below shows historical enrollment for BPS.
